The Full Week 2 Verdict: Every Start, Sit, and Toss-Up the Boys Made
Week 2's already got a shoulder injury mid-blowout. The boys have opinions on 70+ players and we noted every name so you don't have to sit through the podcasts yourself.
Below is the full sort: who's locked into your lineup, who's earning bench time, and who's quietly about to win you your week.
Reality check before you panic: fantasy football isn't one-size-fits-all. Your league's format, your bench depth, your scoring settings — all of it changes the math here. Treat this as a starting point, not a rulebook.
Know Your Context
- Deep leagues: a "sit" below might still be your best option. Relax.
- Shallow leagues: today's landmine could be tomorrow's league-winner sitting on your waiver wire.
- Flex spots: this is where upside beats safety, every time.
The real takeaway: if your lineup still feels messy after all this, that's normal — every league is different. Trust your gut, start your best players, and stop second-guessing yourself.
Now go set those lineups. Full slate below.
Quarterbacks
The Locks
- Brock Purdy (49ers): Threw 3 touchdowns on the Rams in Week 1 and now gets a Miami secondary that just gave up 3 through the air to Kirk Cousins. San Francisco's a 13.5-point home favorite. Top-5 play, no asterisks.
- Jordan Love (Packers): Green Bay went pass-heavy with the lead in Week 1 — 71% first-half pass rate — and the Jets' secondary isn't scaring anyone. With Tucker Kraft, Christian Watson, and Matthew Golden to throw to, he's ranked ahead of Goff, Burrow, and Maye this week.
- Baker Mayfield (Buccaneers): Revenge game against his old team, and Cleveland's pass defense just allowed 4 touchdowns and 10.7 yards an attempt to Trevor Lawrence. He's the "Start of the Week" and averages 20+ at home.
- Trevor Lawrence (Jaguars): He torched Denver last time out — 279 yards, 3 TDs, 37 fantasy points — and he's averaging 23.1 over his last nine games. Denver's tackling and coverage were both shaky in Week 1. Locked-in top-10 start.
- Caleb Williams (Bears): Consensus QB2 after a 40-point team outburst. High-tempo, pass-heavy game expected against Minnesota — high confidence start.
- Jaxson Dart (Giants): His stock jumped after 11 carries (5 designed, 6 scrambles) and 3 passing touchdowns against Dallas. Cheat-code rushing floor in a potential dome shootout against a Rams front missing key pieces.
- Jayden Daniels (Commanders): High-floor dual-threat option against a Dallas defense that gave up easy completions and checkdowns in Week 1.
- Jalen Hurts (Eagles): Must-start dual-threat against a vulnerable Titans defense, with Philly as 7-point favorites.
- Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs): Showed off dedicated red-zone rushing usage in Week 1 (two rushing TDs, one called back). High-floor home start against Indy.
- Lamar Jackson (Ravens): Locked-in QB1 in the QB5-6 range. Baltimore leans on the run against New Orleans, but his legs keep the floor high regardless.
The Landmines
- Deshaun Watson (Browns): Cleveland's offense is still a mess, and he's on the road as a heavy underdog against Todd Bowles' Tampa Bay defense. Almost no floor.
- Tyler Shough (Saints): A classic trap start. Baltimore's defense under Jesse Minter generated nearly a 50% pressure rate on Daniel Jones in Week 1, and Shough already struggled for 3.5 quarters against Detroit. Heavy sack and pick risk.
- Drake Maye (Patriots): Facing T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith without AJ Brown (IR). He's averaging just 17.7 fantasy points over his last six games with more picks than you'd like. Low game total (41.5). Bench him for Love, Mayfield, or Shough.
- Joe Burrow (Bengals): Dealing with back soreness and facing a Houston defense converting pressures to sacks at a 57% clip. Ranked outside the top 12 — sit him for Purdy or Mayfield.
- Bo Nix (Broncos): Rough Week 1 with fumble and protection issues, and now a tough Jacksonville pass rush. Unstartable until Denver cleans up the play-calling.
- Daniel Jones (Colts): Visibly struggling to push off his leg, and Steve Spagnuolo's Chiefs defense just generated a 40% pressure rate on Bo Nix. Rough spot.
The Toss-Ups
- Justin Herbert (Chargers): Interior line is depleted (center Tyler Biadasz on IR) and Ladd McConkey is dealing with a severe rib injury. Consensus has him around QB8-12 vs. Las Vegas, but several rank him outside the top 15 in favor of a streamer.
- Jacoby Brissett (Cardinals): Has hit 19+ points in 10 of his last 11 starts — a real streaming option if Arizona needs him.
- Carson Wentz (Vikings): Starting for Minnesota this week with Kyler Murray still in the concussion protocol, against Chicago.
- Bryce Young (Panthers): Has 30+ points in 2 of his last 3 games against Atlanta — a real single-week streamer if you need one.
- Malik Willis (Dolphins): Provides a 10-point rushing floor as a desperation streaming option. The group is split on single-week value versus long-term stash appeal.
Running Backs
The Locks
- Aaron Jones (Vikings): Jordan Mason landed on IR with a thumb injury, locking Jones into a true bellcow role against a Chicago defense that got carved up by backs in Week 1. He's averaged ~15 PPR points a game across 17 career matchups with Chicago.
- Saquon Barkley (Eagles): 7-point favorites against Tennessee. Line shuffling behind him, but his touch volume and red-zone role haven't budged.
- Chuba Hubbard (Panthers): Fifth in total fantasy volume in Week 1 — 71% touch share, primary goal-line back, 2 TDs. Jonathon Brooks is still being brought along slowly, so Hubbard's a high-confidence RB2 at Atlanta.
- Kenneth Walker III (Seahawks): 29 opportunities in Week 1, tied for the league lead among backs, plus 12-14 forced missed tackles. Top-3 play against a soft Arizona run defense.
- David Montgomery (Texans): Now in Houston after the trade out of Detroit — fresh start, and he's a lead-role back in a high-scoring offense with trusted pass-pro chops.
- Ashton Jeanty (Raiders): 29 opportunities in his Week 1 debut, with real pass-game usage — screens, choice routes, a leak-play touchdown. Primary focal point again vs. the Chargers.
- Derrick Henry (Ravens): 8.5-point home favorites vs. New Orleans, who allowed a league-low 48.5% rush-defense success rate in Week 1. Heavy workload, real touchdown equity.
- D'Andre Swift (Bears): Lead back in a high-scoring Chicago offense projected for 26.5 team points, with real pass-protection trust.
The Landmines
- Quinshon Judkins (Browns): Running behind a broken Cleveland line on the road against Vita Vea and Todd Bowles' run defense, with no receiving floor — those reps went elsewhere. Trap-back alert.
- Jaylen Warren & Rico Dowdle (Steelers): A messy 50/50 split in a low-volume Aaron Rodgers offense against a dominant New England run defense. Dowdle posted an 8% success rate in Week 1; Warren fumbled early. Sit both.
- Jonathon Brooks (Panthers): Still being eased back from ACL recovery — just 4 carries in Week 1 while Hubbard holds 70%+ of the snaps and every red-zone touch. Unstartable until his workload expands.
- Kyle Monangai (Bears): Early-down thumper stuck behind Swift in a game expected to be pass-heavy against Minnesota. Touchdown-dependent bench piece.
The Toss-Ups
- Jadarian Price (Seahawks) & Jeremiyah Love (Cardinals): Both talented rookies splitting snaps with a veteran committee-mate. Price has the explosive run metrics but zero pass-game floor; Love faces a stout Seattle defense. The group is split, ranking them back-to-back around RB23/24.
- Travis Etienne & Bhayshul Tuten (Jaguars): Tuten logged 16 opportunities and forced 7 missed tackles in Week 1 — "Start of the Week" praise from the Fantasy Footballers vs. Denver. But short-yardage and goal-line work went to others, which has some calling him a trap back.
- De'Von Achane (Dolphins): Played just 39% of the dropbacks in Week 1, splitting early-down and goal-line work with two other backs. Still holds his pass-catching role, but now faces Baltimore's elite defense. The group is torn between buying low, sitting him for Aaron Jones, or holding as a volatile flex.
- Kaelon Black (49ers): Matched Christian McCaffrey's carry count in Week 1 (14 carries, 65 yards) while McCaffrey battled cramps. San Francisco's a 13.5-point favorite over Miami, which gives Black late-game blowout appeal — but his standalone value if McCaffrey's fully healthy is still unclear.
Wide Receivers
The Locks
- Parker Washington (Jaguars): "Must Start until further notice." He works the slot, away from Patrick Surtain II's shadow coverage, torched Denver for 6-145-1 last time they met, and posted a 42.9% target-per-route-run rate in Week 1. Start him over Drake London and Jaylen Waddle with confidence.
- Mike Evans (49ers): Top-15 WR play. San Francisco draws a Miami secondary full of inexperienced young safeties, and Evans' red-zone target share stays bankable wherever he lines up.
- Christian Watson (Packers): Jordan Love's downfield alpha vs. the Jets. He's averaging 17.5 points a game when his route share tops 75% — and he ran an 83% route share in Week 1.
- Stefon Diggs (Commanders): Ran a 63% snap share in Week 1 as Jayden Daniels' primary short-to-intermediate target, and Dallas allowed the 7th-most fantasy points per target to slot receivers last week.
- Deebo Samuel (49ers): High-volume slot and backfield usage with De'Zhaun Stribling banged up. Top-30 option against Miami, with 3 red-zone targets in Week 1 and a strong YAC floor underneath it.
- Matthew Golden (Packers): 26% target share and a 92% route rate in his Week 1 debut. Go-to option against a Jets defense that plays two-high 59% of the time.
- Jalen Coker (Panthers): Averaged 14 PPR points a game over his final six games last season and remains Bryce Young's top target. High-confidence WR2/WR3 vs. Atlanta.
The Landmines
- Brian Thomas Jr. (Jaguars): Dealing with a shoulder injury and shadowed by Patrick Surtain II, who held him to 1 catch for 9 yards last time. Drew just 3 targets in Week 1. Floor's gone — sit him.
- Drake London (Falcons): Atlanta's passing game is barely functional under backup QB Cooper Rush, who completed only 4 passes to anyone not named Bijan Robinson in Week 1. Unstartable until Penix or Tagovailoa takes over.
- Devaughn Vele (Saints): A highlighted waiver name, but an explicit must-sit call. His 9 targets in Week 1 came in an 86-play overtime game — this week he projects for around 6 targets against Baltimore and needs a fluky score to hit double digits.
- Jordan Addison (Vikings): Went cold in Week 1 (0 catches on 2 targets), and backup QB Carson Wentz hyper-targets Justin Jefferson. Unreliable start.
- Alec Pierce (Colts): Facing Spagnuolo's pressure-heavy Chiefs defense while Daniel Jones struggles to push the ball downfield. Desperation flex only.
The Toss-Ups
- Jaylen Waddle (Broncos): Disastrous Week 1 (1 catch, 2 yards) tangled up in Bo Nix's rocky start. Some in the group like the home bounce-back spot against Jacksonville's zone looks; others still rank him a low-end WR3/flex until Denver's passing game proves it works.
- Terry McLaurin (Commanders): Quiet in Week 1 against Quinyon Mitchell's zone coverage. Dallas is there for the taking, but Stefon Diggs and rookie Antonio Williams are siphoning the high-percentage slot targets. The group's split between bounce-back and benching him for Deebo or Chris Godwin.
- Quentin Johnston (Chargers): Entirely dependent on Ladd McConkey's rib injury. If McConkey sits, Johnston becomes a high-upside WR2/3 against single-high looks from Las Vegas — he scored in both meetings last year. If McConkey plays, that volume disappears.
- Jameson Williams (Lions): Boom-or-bust. He drew 9 targets in Week 1 but dropped passes and caught just 2 for 33 yards. Historically, when Sam LaPorta sees 6+ targets, JaMo's been a non-factor in 21 of his last 26 games.
Tight Ends
The Locks
- Trey McBride (Cardinals): Consensus TE1 overall, with elite route and target share in Arizona's passing game.
- Dallas Goedert (Eagles): Top-4 TE with AJ Brown on IR. He's pulling a 23% first-read target share and red-zone priority from Jalen Hurts, with a great matchup against Tennessee.
- Colston Loveland (Bears): Top-3 bounce-back play despite a quiet Week 1 stat line — he still ran the second-highest route participation of any TE in the league (88%+). Set up for real volume against a blitz-heavy Minnesota defense.
- Dalton Schultz (Texans): Top waiver add and TE1 play with Nico Collins dealing with a grade 1 hamstring strain. Cincinnati allowed the most catches, yards, and touchdowns to tight ends in the league last season, and Schultz already drew 8 targets in Week 1.
- Michael Mayer (Raiders): Starting TE with Brock Bowers doubtful (knee). Drew 7 targets in Week 1 against a Chargers defense that got shredded by Trey McBride — high-volume streaming start.
- Hunter Henry (Patriots): Drake Maye's top security blanket with AJ Brown out. He posted 8 catches, 90 yards, and 2 TDs against Pittsburgh last time — a top streaming pick again.
The Landmines
- Kyle Pitts (Falcons): Zero catches in Week 1 on a 4.5% target share under backup QB Cooper Rush, used mostly as a blocker (63% snap share). Unplayable until the QB situation changes.
- Harold Fannin Jr. (Browns): An afterthought in Deshaun Watson's offense — 3 targets, 4 yards in Week 1. Sit until Shedeur Sanders or a QB change happens.
- George Kittle (49ers): Played under 50% of snaps in Week 1 (30 snaps, 13 routes) coming off Achilles rehab, used mostly as a blocker while San Francisco leans on McCaffrey, Deebo, and Evans. Touchdown-or-bust until his route share climbs.
The Toss-Ups
- Isaiah Likely & Mark Andrews (Ravens): A dual-TE situation. Likely had a huge Week 1 explosion but only a 67% route share; Andrews saw 6 targets and remains Lamar's trusted red-zone option, especially with Zay Flowers banged up. The group's split on whether one outperforms the other or they cannibalize each other's ceiling.
Defense/Special Teams
The Locks
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Top streaming priority. Cleveland's offense is a turnover machine, and the sack/turnover upside is real.
- San Francisco 49ers: 13.5-point home favorites against a struggling Miami offense, with Nick Bosa and Fred Warner fully healthy. Excellent short- and long-term hold.
- Kansas City Chiefs: Led the entire league in pressure rate in Week 1. Home against Daniel Jones and the Colts, with Miami and Las Vegas on deck after this.
- Baltimore Ravens: Elite unit under Jesse Minter — 11th-ranked pressure rate in Week 1 and completely shut down Indy. Now facing a Saints offense prone to sacks and giveaways.
- Seattle Seahawks: Consensus top-5 defense against a volatile Arizona offense on the road.
The Landmines
- Los Angeles Chargers: Explicit drop recommendation. Struggled against Arizona, no turnover upside against conservative scripts, and a brutal stretch ahead (Buffalo, Seattle, Denver, Kansas City, Rams, Houston, Baltimore).
- Tennessee Titans: Scored zero fantasy points in Week 1 against the Jets and now face Jalen Hurts as 7-point underdogs.
- Dallas Cowboys: Looked lost under new DC Christian Parker in Week 1, leaving the flats wide open on a 59% success rate allowed to the Giants. Sit until the coverage busts get fixed.
- Cleveland Browns & Carolina Panthers: Carolina gave up 59 points to Chicago in Week 1; Cleveland's offense keeps putting its own defense in terrible field position. Both unstartable.
The Toss-Ups
- Houston Texans: Gave up 8 yards a play in a Week 1 blowout loss to Buffalo, but now face a banged-up Joe Burrow and a Bengals offense that's struggling in pass protection. The group's split on streaming them as a bounce-back or benching them.
